Befriending Your Amygdala:
Understanding The Neurobiology of Trauma & Developing Self-Care Strategies
With Mario Cossa

San Rafael, CA

Fee: $25 (additional $5 for CEUS), or $10 if taken in conjunction with the workshop on January 16 & 17, Working with Care and Compassion: Using Psychodrama with Survivors of Trauma .

Format and Goals: This workshop explores, in action, the neurobiology of trauma and its effects on the brain.  From the role of the amygdala, the frontal cortex, etc. participants gain understanding of the way that normal memories are laid down and how trauma interrupts this process.  Using this understanding as a foundation, participants will briefly explore ways in which trauma effects not only clients, but also the professionals who serve them.  As the processes of Compassion Fatigue are explored, participants will develop personal and group strategies to provide adequate self care.

Participants: This training is designed for professionals who work with the effects of trauma, individuals who have been personally affected by trauma, and professionals coping with the effects of secondary traumatization.

Note: This is a stand-alone workshop or add-on to the January 16 & 17 training, Working with Care and Compassion: Using Psychodrama with Survivors of Trauma .
